FAQ'S
Any questions? Find all your answers here...
What is Lines?
Lines is a six-week urban cycling challenge where you plan your own routes between checkpoints, challenges and climbs across London. Compete for three specialist titles (Navigator, Challenge, Climber) or aim for the Overall Championship.
When does it run?
Six weekly stages from Monday 29th June to 9th August 2026. Each stage releases on Monday and closes the following Sunday.
Do I need a specific type of bike?
Any bike works — road, gravel, fixed gear, etc. Just make sure it's safe for London streets. No electric bikes.
Is this a race?
No. There's no official timing or ranking by speed. You ride at your own pace.
What if I miss a stage?
Missing a stage means you receive no ranking points for it and will not be eligible for specialist titles or the Overall Championship. If you miss a stage due to illness or injury, contact the organiser — your stage may be neutralised rather than forfeited.
How do challenges work?
You must complete between 1–10 challenges per stage. You can repeat challenges across stages, but not using the same location or method (e.g. the same viewpoint or bike shop).
How are the rankings calculated?
Lines uses the same ranking system as professional cycling events like the Tour de France. Each stage, every rider is ranked in three specialist categories — Navigation (shortest distance), Challenges (most points collected) and Climbing (most elevation). The rider with the best overall record in each category across all six stages wins that specialist title. Those rankings are also added together to give each rider an Overall Championship score. A 1st place finish scores 1, 2nd scores 2, 3rd scores 3, and so on. The lower the score, the better. The rider with the lowest combined score at the end of all six stages is the Overall Champion. You must complete all six stages to be eligible for titles. A neutralised stage counts as last place.
How are ties decided?
If two or more riders are tied on ranking points in any category, the tie is broken by earliest submission date, therefore the rider who completed their stages earliest wins the tie.
What are DNS, DNF and DNQ?
DNS (Did Not Start) means a rider never submitted a Stage 1 result. DNF (Did Not Finish) means a rider started but missed a subsequent stage. DNQ (Disqualified) means a rider has been disqualified due to a rules breach. Riders with any of these statuses are excluded from specialist titles and the Overall Championship. The organiser will always consult with a rider before applying any of these statuses.
What is a neutralised stage?
If a rider cannot complete a stage due to illness, injury or other legitimate reason, the organiser can neutralise that stage for them. A neutralised stage counts as last place in all three categories for that stage, but the rider remains active and continues in subsequent stages. Contact the organiser as soon as possible if you need a stage neutralised.
How do I submit my results?
After finishing a stage, sign into the Lines app, select the stage you completed, submit your Strava ride URL link, your distance, your elevation, and your claimed challenges. All submissions are reviewed before appearing on rankings. You must submit within each stage window, Monday to Sunday, of that stage week.
Can I ride with friends?
Absolutely — there's a Triple Threat challenge worth 3 points for completing a stage with two mates who aren't taking part.
What level of fitness do I need?
Lines welcomes all abilities. You choose your own route and pace.
Is Lines open to everyone?
Yes. Lines is non-competitive, self-paced, with no categories, no gender classifications and no ability groups. If you can plan a route and turn a pedal, you're in.
